What if a labour union offered its services to the self-employed? What if it took all that is good about union representation, cut away the unnecessary parts and offered it to the self-employed?

About the Guild Network

Let’s face it - a freelancer may not require a union. We agree, but wouldn’t it be nice to have some of those benefits?

The Guild Network pulls together and bundles the most important advantages of a large, national labour organization with a long history of worker advocacy. The Christian Labour Association of Canada (CLAC) is a 45,000-member organization established in 1952 on the principle that it is better to work with the owners and managers of business than it is to fight with them. This approach to worker and management partnership has led to rapid growth in all sectors. CLAC has a staff of 160 working from eleven offices in four provinces - and it's growing.

A Guild Network member is affiliated with CLAC for the purpose of accessing its benefits – that’s it. There are no obligations of membership other than what the member is willing to contribute to the life and operation of the Guild Network.

CLAC’s values complement the objectives of the Guild Network:

  • Cooperative
  • Professional
  • Knowledgeable
  • Respectful of the purpose of business
  • Mindful of the value of work and its contributions to society
  • Seeking reconciliation where there is conflict and division
  • Not involved with political and social organizations
  • A “members first” service approach

CLAC's 55+ years of progressive employment advocacy can help you achieve your goals as an entrepreneur,as a family, and a member of your community
